Testimonials
When I took my first class that the SBSMA I couldn't believe how much I learned in two days. I made a garden sphere and now that I have it in my backyard it is such a great talking point with my guests. Tami is an great teacher and is passionate about her students learning and feeling capable. I have begun attending her lab hours and creating my own pieces, I am also planning on attending more classes. I can't recommend Tami and her school enough.
Sincerely,
Julie F.
The Santa Barbara School of Mosaic Art is the best extra-curricular activity I have ever pursued. Tami, the owner, is an inspired artist and a natural teacher. She knows how to bring out the best in the rank beginner as well as the experienced practitioner of mosaic art. She provides all the necessary instruction, she gently imparts valuable suggestions, and she keeps the experience fun and fulfilling at all times. She also has a full complement of supplies, from tools to media to design ideas, so there's no need to wade through mystifying websites. And, Tami's prices are very reasonable. I am a left-brained klutz, but with Tami's support, am blossoming into an artist!

Pizza Oven Complete!!
Submitted by admin on Tue, 05/03/2011 - 14:11I had such a blast working on my latest commission. This Forno Bravo pizza oven started out a nice shade of beige and it has been transformed into an underwater sea theme with bicycling chickens. Not sure if you will see this anywhere else. I used stained glass as my tessare and the eyes on the octopus are glass fused by well known mosaic artist Martin Cheek. You are welcome to email me any questions or thoughts regarding this piece. If you would like to see it in person also email me and I can give you information how to see it. It is in the front yard of an amazing family here in Santa Barbara.
El Anatsui piece in person
Submitted by admin on Mon, 04/18/2011 - 20:08I am in the process of working on a mosaic of an outdoor pizza oven at a very nice home on the Mesa in Santa Barbara. While working one day the next door neighbor paid a visit. We got to talking and he told me he is a retired professor from UCSB. He taught art history for 35 years with an emphasis on African Art. I asked him if he had ever heard of El Anatsui, I explained I had just learned of him from a film I saw of him at the SAMA conference I was at in February. He went on to tell him not only had he heard of him but he was friends with him. That this man got El Anatsui his first American piece into the DeYoung museum. To thank him El gave him a piece of his art. If you don't know El Anatsui's work the best way to describe him is large scale recycled material such as bottle caps, cans and other metal scraps that create a mosaic like blanket of colorful beauty. It is awe inspiring what he creates. This man showed me his El Anatsui piece hanging perfectly in his home. It was like meeting a celebrity. So amazing what a small and sweet world we live in........
